Birth Preparation: Prepare Your Body, Breath & Birth Team
Birth preparation is about more than packing a hospital bag or learning the stages of labor. It is an opportunity to understand how your body may move and respond during labor, learn strategies to work with your body rather than against it, and feel more confident advocating for yourself throughout birth.
At Natural Fit Physio, our birth preparation sessions combine pelvic floor physical therapy, breathing strategies, movement, education, and hands-on techniques to help you and your birth partner feel more prepared for labor and delivery.
Whether this is your first baby or you're preparing for another birth, you can use birth prep to better understand your body, practice techniques before you need them, and create a plan that supports your individual goals.
What happens during a birth preparation session?
Every birth is different, and there is no single "right" way to prepare. Your session is personalized to your body, your pregnancy, your previous experiences, and what you hope to feel more confident about going into birth.
We assess your pelvic floor function
We assess how your pelvic floor functions and help you learn how to contract, relax, and lengthen the pelvic floor. You’ll also learn how pelvic floor coordination can support pushing and help with bladder and bowel continence.
We practice breathing for labor and pushing
Learn how to coordinate your breath, diaphragm, abdominal muscles, and pelvic floor during labor and pushing. We also teach breathing and pressure-management strategies that can support continence during pregnancy, birth, and beyond.
We prepare you to advocate for yourself
Understand what to expect during the different stages of labor and learn how to communicate your needs, preferences, and questions with your birth team. Our goal is to help you feel informed and confident advocating for yourself throughout delivery.
We include your partner or support person
Your partner or support person is welcome to join the session! Together, we practice labor positions, hands-on comfort techniques, massage, and other ways your support person can help you during labor while learning what to expect during each stage of birth.
